Retro Map pack was created by Jevski
Even though I like the map pack, i dont think the majority of pr players have any clue what it is, and we wont be able to run a full server with it.

Have anyone ever had a full server with a retro map?

Just now, i put up a vote with retro maps, on a full server. 30 players voted in all, and when the new map had loaded around 13 was left.

That means that around half voted to a map they were not able to play.

How do we fix this, or is it a "stupid cant be fixed" situation?

You cant fix it..........you cant force anyone to download the map pack...........

I have a feeling that most of them think that the new/old maps were included in the update............

There was a dedicated server for the retro maps, didn't last long...........max I saw was 12 players..........

I personally like the retro maps, but it wont keep the server populated...........

My thoughts are "lets throw everyone into the deep end of the pool"... slowly and methodically.

What I mean is:

When to do the mapvote: When it's toward the end of the most popular play times (i.e 10-11pm EST for US players) OR when all other servers have 0 population or 100 population and nothing in between. Specifically, only when the server is full (I'll explain this in my why section). This is done maybe once, twice a week?

What to do: 2 Regular maps and 1 retro in the vote.

In parallel, we have to be proactive about letting our players know throughout the week that we will be running retro maps (even though we may not run them that day). I've been issuing a !s retro command maybe once every 2 rounds.

Why I think this may work: The proactive warnings will hopefully result in some people installing the retro maps over the course of the week to ease players in. When retro mapvotes occur, I say to do it on a full server at those previously mentioned conditions because it's less likely the player has an alternative option of a server. It may irk some players but these will be the lazy ones. With no other server option, if they really want to play, they will have to install the maps. Yes, this will "kill" the server population at the beginning, but the idea is that by "ripping off the bandaid", more players will install in order to play. Hopefully, we reach a point where enough people have it.

This is my opinion and I welcome any criticism or comments to improve the method.

People don't listen to warnings anyways. I'd like to see how many players actually downloaded the Retro Pack, I can only imagine probably 20% of the community has. (Based on the forums and active people on there.)

Either way, I saw 2 Retro maps thrown in the vote last night on here, Barasah was the other one. (obviously won - Barasah that is!)

The retro map pack imo lost popularity... bringing back old maps they took out (Shikotan, and some other ones) would have been better for the map pack instead of some .5 km maps (would be good seeding maps tbh). The only one IMO that would bring players to download the map pack, would be Qingling (GB vs China).

I have a friend that's an admin on another server, and he said the retro pack was only really hot for one day... then lost popularity. They even have another server up for the entire pack, but not one person joins it.

Maybe if HOG did a event on the map pack? But having scrolling messages about the event would help greatly, and having a brief detail about the upcoming event for PR Retro Map Pack under the server description upon loading into the server would help.

Yeah, I usually only put up the big maps when the server is full, Qinling or Kufra are good for a full server.

we took out the retro maps, dont put them in the vote anymore as you will not be able to load them.
