You are correct, not all rule breakers are trolls...but what u miss is the day in day out rule breaking by a select few players...when we ban a player we review the logs and we find that 80% of the time they are constantly breaking the rules over and over...it brings attention to them...many of them have multiple accounts...have previous bans, are on the hacker list, or are continually disruptive to the point that we need to admin them constantly...It have been proven to be more efficient to ban a player, check his history on our server and other servers and lift or keep the ban depending on the results....experience has shown us the warnings and kicks do not work...they just lead to players seeking a dialogue in allchat or team chat...which is prohibited so the admins can pay attention to reports and play the game. Take a look at the ban appeals many are lifted promptly because we find the player to have been just unaware of the rules or had a momentary lapse...I can understand how it may appear from the outside looking in but the reality is much different. The overwhelming vast majority of players in HOG have never had any admin contact. The players appreciate prompt action and fair game play otherwise they would go elsewhere. Despite the grumblings we populate everyday and have for nearly 10 years....this is not to brag its meant to affirm the fact that players play on a server they like...

Yes, actually, you've changed my mind. I think that this is completely true. The instant ban thing is annoying for the banned one, but neccessary. I actually completely agree with you now My only problem left, and it's a significant one, is perfectly exposed in this forum post: ban appeal
The rules were broken, and NOT on accident, but the rules absolutely should have been tested against the reason of the argument (which, in this case and in my opinion, were reasonable- how often do we get a commander who isn't just signing up to put a solitary marker on an enemy position or call in an area attack?)
